From 12th April 2021, Central Government are allowing driving lessons to resume in England following the current controlled decline with the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, Covid-19 has not gone away so we will all continue to have the responsibility to keep ourselves as safe as possible during each and every driving lesson. Therefore, it is important that you read through the following guidelines recommended by the DVSA and confirm via text that you will follow them before and during each driving lesson.
The guidelines for lessons during the current pandemic are as follows:
1. The day before each lesson, you will be sent a text message from me asking if you are okay. Your answer will be ‘YES’ if all is good. Your answer will be ‘NO’ if you have had or are showing any symptoms of the virus within the previous 7 days or have been in contact with someone who has had the symptoms within the previous 14 days. This includes a rise in temperature, a new and continuous cough or notable reduced sense of smell and taste. If this is the case, then your lesson(s) will be cancelled for a period of 2 weeks. There will be no cancellation charge during this time. If I am showing the symptoms of the virus, then I will let you know and the same rules will apply to me. Note: If either one of us starts to show the symptoms during the course of the lesson, the lesson itself will be cancelled immediately.
2. Before each lesson, you must remember to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, in line with Government guidance, please wear a face covering just before getting into the car. If for any reason you were unable to wash your hands, I will have a hand sanitiser available for you to use.
3. At the start of each lesson, I will wait for you outside your home, college or workplace (if you are at home, I will not be knocking on your door so please look out for me). Please note that for safety reasons I will not shake your hand or share any visual aids where physical contact may be required.
4. Prior to every lesson I will have cleaned down the car’s door handles inside and out, windows and mirror controls, seat and head restraints, seatbelt and its connection, gear lever, steering wheel, indicator and wiper stalks, car keys and training resources. The windows will be down as much as possible during the lesson to allow for good ventilation.
5. During the course of each lesson, prior to and after any demonstration drive, I will need to wipe down the controls. If, for any reason I have had to touch any controls during the lesson the car must be pulled up at the earliest convenience and the controls must be wiped down. If our hands accidentally touch as a result of steering assistance then they must also be sanitised.
6. Lesson payments must now be made electronically via Bank Transfer the day before each lesson. My Bank details will be provided upon request. If you can only pay by cash then the correct amount is to be put into a sealed envelope at least 72hrs before your lesson.
